Welcome to the Refugee Council

The Refugee Council gives practical help to asylum seekers and refugees and advances their rights both in the UK and abroad.

We are the largest provider of direct help to people seeking asylum in the UK. Our work helps people at every level - from grassroots work with refugee community organisations to liaison with senior politicians.

The Refugee Council's work includes:

• direct help to newly-arrived asylum seekers and other vulnerable groups of refugees, providing advice to aid asylum seekers in settling here and accessing essential services.
• working with refugee community organisations, helping them grow and serve their communities.
• supporting people working with refugees through specialist advice and information.
• offering training and employment courses to help refugees make use of the skills, experience and expertise that they bring with them to this country.
• providing assistance to vulnerable groups of asylum seekers and refugees, such as unaccompanied children, the elderly and destitute asylum seekers.
• advocating for asylum seekers' and refugees' rights in the UK, in Europe and internationally, keeping them high on the political agenda and discussed in the media.
• producing authoritative information on refugee issues worldwide, including reports, statistics and analyses.

The Refugee Council is a membership organisation. Refugee community organisations, interested individuals, trusts and other aid agencies such as Action Aid, Amnesty International and Oxfam are all members of the Refugee Council.
